WE LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING YOU!

It is important to know how to look after your flowers once you have recieved them. Please read below for some instructions.

For all cut flowers avoid direct sunlight, excessive heat or drafts. Generally the cooler the room, the longer the flowers last.

These tips are valid for both bespoke bouquets, our flower bucket specials and the Upick flowers.

Roses & Seasonal Flowers

  • First things first; get your flowers out of their wrappings and into cold water as soon as possible. Cut flowers need lots of water and they need it right away. If you have purchased a Bespoke Bouquet you can remove the wrapping but leave the last layer(s) of string around the flowers to keep its shape but by all means if you want to split the arrangement or have them loose then cut the string holding them together.
  • The next step is to cut off about 1-2cm from the bottom of each stem. A handy tip here is to do place each stem under running water and only use sharp scissors or secateurs. If you use anything blunt to cut them you risk damaging the stems and their ability to take up water.
  • Make sure the vase you use is clean and free from bacteria. A quick wash with soapy water and a good rinse should do the trick.
  • Once your flowers are placed in your chosen vase, you should remove any leaves or thorns that fall below the water level as these can cause algae and bacteria to form.
  • Roses are summer flowers but we do sometimes have very hot days. A trick is to put ice in the vase water to cool the flowers and slow down the rose opening process. In winter they prefer lukewarm water rather than cold water as it helps them to absorb their food and water more efficiently.
  • Check the water regularly and change it every two or three days to keep it fresh and cut stems again to keep the ends clean.
  • Cut flowers are quite delicate and so you should keep your flowers out of direct sunlight and away from cold draughts if you can.

Alstromeria - Peruvian Lilies

Check the water level daily and top up your vase using fresh, clean, water. Change the water, ideally every other day, and add new flower food.
Keep flowers away from ripening fruit and remove faded flowers as they occur. These exude ethylene gas, which speeds deterioration of flowers around them.

Alstroemeria, aka “Peruvian Lilies”, is one of the best-selling flowers in our shop. The longevity, durability and colorful varieties have made them a favorite among our customers.

Whether you receive alstroemeria as a gift or buy them for yourself, they will either come arranged in a Bouquet, boxed, or paper wrapped.

Here are seven steps you should immediately follow to extend the vase life of your alstroemeria:

  1. Remove any leaves that may be under water.
  2. While holding the stems under water in a sink or under running water, cut about one inch off each stem with a sharp knife or shears. DO NOT let the newly cut end dry off before transferring it into another container.
  3. If buds appear to be very tight, submerging them in warm water will promote opening.
  4. Water with a floral preservative solution should be used to arrange fresh cut alstroemeria in. Using it as recommended will provide additional days of vase life. Try to avoid using water from a water softener.
  5. Immediately after the stems are cut, place your alstroemeria in a clean, deep vase of warm preservative solution. Allow several hours to condition them before arranging.
  6. Temperature is a key factor in the lifespan of all flowers. Display your fresh cut alstroemeria arrangements in a cool area out of direct sunlight and drafts.
  7. Alstroemeria are thirsty flowers. It is important to check to see that the vase is full and add preservative solution as needed. If arranged in floral foam, be sure it is completely saturated and the container is full daily.
